Kraków universities have collected over 18 000 zlotys for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity

The Jagiellonian University together with the AGH University of Science and Technology and Krakow University of Economics have created a team of volunteers who on 8 January 2012 carried out a street collection of money to benefit the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. Thanks to their great commitment and people's generosity, donation boxes were becoming heavier and heavier. To support the charity action, the universities organised internet auctions, which received a lot of attention from the public.

Among the objects and events put on auction were:

  • Language courses and post-diploma studies
  • JU wines
  • Accommodation in university hotels and guest houses
  • Private tour of Pablo Picasso's lithographs in Collegium Maius
  • Sports memorabilia
  • Tickets to AGH sport venues
  • Tickets for cultural events
  • Private tour of historical collections of the Jagiellonian University Library
  • Books and calendars with dedications
  • Special, hand-made ecological bags with the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity logo
  • Set of cosmetics
  • Tour of AGH mine

The Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity was accompanied by street artists' performances and a fire show. The JU team of volunteers was joined by the Staropolska Restaurant, which donated to the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity a significant part of its daily turnover and offered warm meals and a delicious apple pie to the volunteers.

To sum up, the action co-organised by the universities brought about 18 000 zlotys. The JU Marketing Office would like to thank the donors, volunteers, universities and all the people who devoted their time and energy to the 20th Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity!
